When Gaining Weight is A Good Thing

Weight: Yuck. I don't like that word. I've had my battles with it and will continue to. Ever lied on a driver's license? Yep...I have (I'm always about 10 pounds lighter on that card than on the scale.)

For the past 10 years...I've had my battle with weight. The Weight Watchers program + training for triathlons/half marathons are my friends.

Gaining weight is never great unless it is for this cause:

Yep...A cute baby.

And guess what? I'm happy to announce that I'm gaining weight! (For Such A Cause)
True that.

Dave and I are going to have our first little baby in December. Woo Hoo!

I'm truly grateful for this news!

Dave and I found out I was pregnant at the end of March and kept it a secret from our families for 11 weeks. Amazing right? Considering the fact that I found out I was pregnant the same day my parents rolled into town.

Overall I'm doing fairly well. I had to quit running/swimming/dancing/doing anything physical. Why? I've had some complications come up that require me to take it really easy. Pretty much...if I work too hard, I'm on bed rest for at least 48 hours. If I take it easy, I can do mild things like take Annie for a walk.

The doctor told me I shouldn't do laundry for a few weeks. I was heart broken as one might be. :) Dave has come to appreciate me in a whole new light.

And anyone that says being pregnant affects only the women is a big liar in my book. Dave has had to take on lots. Not only his jobs, but my jobs as well. I'm really grateful for his work ethic. He never complains but does what he can.

My poor neighbors probably think I'm a slave driver as my husband works outside in the yard all day and I barely show my face. Oh well! Can't win them all.

Annie has struggled with my taking it easy thing. When I was on bed rest and Dave was at work, she would stand by the door pleading her cause. She needed to get out of the house and on a walk or run.

We used to go running for miles at a time. Now she was only walking to her food bowl and back. It made me really stressed and so a lovely friend of mine started walking her for me. That has been such a life saver.

It was quite the experience finding out I was pregnant.

A few days before my period I got eager and took a test. No such luck. I had a feeling I was pregnant but I always have that feeling, even while on birth control. :) So I missed a day and took the test. It was the faintest of plus signs. I read that even a faint plus sign means you're prego, but I thought I was reading into it. So I took another one. Again, a really really faint plus. I was freaking out, because I was freaking out.

I was going to settle this once and for all. I took myself to the doctor and they did a pee test. "It has come back negative." Boo hoo! But the nurse said, "You might want to try early in the morning...as that is when your HCG hormone is strongest." Two days later, I bought myself a digital pee test. Either I'm pregnant, or I'm not.

6 a.m. came. (I had dreams the night before.) I took it and it said "Pregnant" I took it again because I didn't believe it.

I rushed into our room and woke Dave up. "Dave...I'm pregnant." Muffled voice. "What?" "I'm pregnant....see." Needless to say, he did not go to sleep after that.

I went running that morning and told my running partner...."Um...I'm pregnant!" She had to know as this would change my running routine (and my planned marathon). We took it slower that day and here I am today!

I'm in the frumpy stage of gaining weight and still not showing a baby belly. So-I'm sure people are wondering if I'm letting myself go. Well-I'm not, promise.

Who would have thought that gaining weight can be a good thing. Ta ta while I go grab something to eat!

  2. Love every minute of being pregnant and gaining weight. I love the fact that I can eat candy and junk food whenever I feel like it. I have gained 40 pounds and don't care. The joys of being pregnant! (Now, let's just hope I can lose it once the baby comes.)
